I was bored and after making this
on friday I wanted a new project.... So I got the idea to make a themed
D2 dock/holder, and started looking at possibilities. I ended up going
for R2D2 as model, and just now did the first bit of its skeleton, in
wood. It's not much yet, but it hopefully will be :D
Oh and i've been gigling for an hour when thinking about project name
"R2 for the D2" ;)
Very first piece. When it's dry, its going to be transformed big time,
rounding off the entire thing. I never have any plans for my stuff,
just make it up as I go, so I hope it will work ^^

UPDATE April 2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
There we go, it's coming into shape... It's faaaaaaar from right yet,
the body alone, but luckily i have a sander
that is in the borderland to being a chainsaw :P, it did the
head from being the squared thingy to the left in that pic to the
rounded one in about 15 minutes. Going to continue after work tomorrow,
finding out exactly where the head is going and then make it stick for
the time being, so i can get the shape of the thing right... Oh, head
is hollow

UPDATE April 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Making the "interior", im not sure what I'll put in there as for
technology yet but we'll see ^^

UPDATE April 5
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Put in the door in the front, as well as jack. There's also a "tunnel"
so the charger can sit in the player while connected to the jack

UPDATE April 6

Did some more sanding, still some to go but starting to look it's shape
Legs need oh so much shaping and sanding, but couldn't resist taking a
pic with them just holding it up after all the penis jokes -.-*

FINAL UPDATE April 15
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This thing has some serious design flawn, mainly lack of access to
volume/power button whilethe D2 is in it's little compartment, and
possible stress on the female jack of the D2 caused by the male jack on
the R2D2 being so "stuck", no room to move around. Therefore, I've
decided to end it in its current state, which means I'm not going to
buy paint and pencils to complete this thing with right colors and
details. The total hours of work spent on this thing isn't much at all
compared to what people might think, waiting for paint or glue to dry
is 98% of the job thanks to that power sander of mine. All in all uner
10 hours of real work I'm guessing, usually a day's work on this thing
means 5 min in basement painting or gluing something and then leaving
it for the next day. So, with that in mind, and the fact that it
basically consist of a $10 hobby wood plate and a $3 speaker, I'm not
sorry to end it kinda unfinished. I've already started a new project
where the experience from this one is crucial for its success, and hey,
I have a R2 for my D2, if I ever decide to paint it thats not a problem.
As for the last pic.... I couldn't for the love of me get a pic showing
what it really looks like, with flash (left pic) the colros are oh so
visible that it actually looks like two different shades of blue, while
without flash (right) it looks like I used different shades of grey on
everything... So try picturing somthing in between :D
The video shows a box sticking out in the back... That's battery
compartment and controls for speakers, as it's not visible anyways I
didnt bother to rewire it as it would cause me to have to open it in
the front to change batteries, which again would mean the front would
have ugly cracks, so I prefer the back to have a hump instead :P
